AudioSwitcher App Reviews

almost perfect

trying to use this app in a school with 100+ apple tvs and the top of the list is cut off. So scrolling to the top of the list is impossible it would seem. works perfect at home! so 4 stars.

Worked for my ATV1 with XBMC

I have an old, original AppleTV running XBMC hooked up to a small stereo in the center of the house which I use to stream music to from my iPhone with no problems. However, I haven’t been able to connect my iMac to this ATV until I downloaded this app. It was listed as an AppleTV device and I was able to immediately connect to it. Glad to be able to use my iMac as the streaming device instead of draining my phone battery now. I would like to see Bluetooth discovery added if possible. I have an iHome BT52 hooked up to another set of speakers on another floor that the iMac can’t seem to see either, but the phone has no issues. Hopefully this app will be able to do the same in the future.

Very useful utility...

…I use it all the time. I just wish it supported the dark theme in Yosemite.

Two apps with same name: this one did not work for me

It is important to know that there are two Audio Switcher apps in the app store. In the store, one of them is presented as one word, AudioSwitcher, and the other is presented as two words: Audio Switcher. But if you buy both apps, when they download, they both show up as AudioSwitcher on your computer: one word with a capital "A" and a capital "S" but both one word. The distinction in the app store names is gone. I purchased both at the same time basically and one of them downloaded as an app while the other downloaded with a folder containing the app and only the app. I dont know if they were designed that way or if they were downloaded with one in a folder because they both had the same name and one would have overwritten the other. But they definitely are two different apps and if you want the right one you really have to pay attention. The one that works for me is the one that downloaded as a folder, though this may be only because I downloaded it after downloading the other one by the same name. It is the more expensive one. It is also the one that has only one review: a negative review that says it could be killed only in Activity Monitor. I am suspecting that this person actually had the other app and put a review in the wrong place but I cant be sure of this. If you look carefully at the information in the app store, you will know that the one that works for me is the one that shows 2.0.4 as the version and in addition to a link for support shows a link to a website for Lorenzo Thurman. It is the one that shows up in the app store with the space so that "audio Switcher" is two words. It does not open as an actual app with its own window as far as I can tell. But it creates an extras menu (which opens with vo-m once you locate it in the extras menu if you are a voiceover user as I am) and has options in it, including a quit option that does work. I havent explored this yet but its possible that theres also an option to show the app in a window as I know some apps have that as an option. The other app, the one that does not work for me, will be listed as version 2.24.7. It is the one that costs just $0.99 and shows the seller as Paul O’neill. It is the one that has almost all the reviews, a lot of them good, so either this really works for some people or people reviewed the wrong app accidentally. After opening this app, I can find no trace of it anywhere except in Activity Monitor and that was the only place where I could kill the process. It does not work at all for me as a voiceover user; perhaps it works for other people but is not voiceover compatible.

Did Not Work

I’m on a MacMini running Yosemite. I have a number of devices connected to my computer. The app would not recognize my TASCAM Audio Interface and would crash as it tried to look for my AppleTV despite the fact that I don’t have an AppleTV. I told it to stop looking for the AppleTV, but it kept looking (and crashing) anyway. I disabled it.

Doesn’t work

Simple as that. Doesn’t work

Works, and works in Yosemite.

Was looking for a convenient way to control a multiple output device (in my case usb/dac driven speakers and a subwoofer which runs off Mac Pro built in Line Out). Reason being that after creating multiple output device in the Midi Audio Setup control panel, you are no longer able to control the volume by media keys on the keyboard, nor with the menu bar widget. This allows me to control each output device separately, and most import from the menu bar - which yes, you could always do it, but had to get into the Midi setup panel. App also creates its own multiple output device, so you dont necessarily need to do it yourself. Just select the devices you want to add to it, without having to drill down into the pref pane to do it. Also allows you to choose the default audio device to set it as the default, much like option clicking the normal volume icon does.

What is this even good for?

Did not work fo HDMI connected TV . waste of money!

Does not work with HDMI

I have BenQ projector with Internal Speakers and I was having dificult time to control my MacBook audio. I was hoping this app will make the bagic based on several web articles that I found. Unfortunately it does not work. I was able to find my HDMI speaker interface but trying to adjust audio slider for output gives me error. Thansk Apple for not providing an option to request refund.

fantastic software - must buy!

currently using the beta that is awaiting approval from Apple. the app works perfectly for my needs! i could not be more satisfied. thank you Paul!

Crashes my recording programs

Thought this would be convenient to quickly switch and mute outputs as I am constantly switching between a normal computing environment and a sound studio. As soon as I opened it it crashed Adobe Audition and my mic control software. Waste of money.

Simply works

If you want a menu bar item to simply toggle between sound input and output devices, this is your beast. It saves me from repeatedly going to System Preferences and clicking Sound. Money well spent.

AudioSwitcher IS CRITICAL

How important is AudioSwitcher?….Without it I could not channel my Mac’s sound silently and wirelessly to my Savi Headset. It works well and is critical to my work.

Perfection

Perfect application. Great dev support. I’ve got amazing sound now with multiple outputs all controled AudioSwitcher (only downside is that my daughters are now asking me to lower the volume ;-)) No brainer: buy it.

Exactly what I needed!

I have a very simple need. I have two Thunderbolt displays side-by-side. I wanted to be able to play audio through both displays AND be able to control the volume from the keyboard. AudioSwitcher had me configured and running in less than a minute. As an added benefit I can easily set the volume for each display. This allows me to compensate for the partial deafness in my right ear. I look forward to exploring the abundant options available. Well worth the $0.99!

Does not allow headphone and internal speakers at same time.

I bought AudioSwitcher for one reason and it can’t do it. It does not allow headphone and internal speakers to play audio at same time.

Very useful, very flexible

This is a great audio switching utility that is well-supported and frequently updated. Highly recommended if you need a faster way of switching audio sources.

Unnecessary

This almost ruined a conference call for with prospctive clients because it failed to work with the webinar system I was using. I’ve found out it’s really not even needed. Just put volume control in the menu bar and hold the option key while clicking on it.

Exactly what I wanted

AudioSwitcher is exactly what I want. It is a simple app that will easily allow me to switch from my bluetooth speakers to my HDMI speakers.

I like the idea , but caused me issues.

I like the idea of a better way to control Audio, but caused me issues. Other apps audio out were acting strange and simply put it was AudioSwitcher. Only 99cents, i wont even ask for a refund.
